Ms Mehaik Shaikh
Customer Success Manager at Sosafe

My French journey began in 2007, right after my 10th exams, when I enrolled at AF Bombay. It quickly became a big part of my life, leading me to work as a receptionist there after completing my graduation in 2012. During my time at AF Bombay, I stumbled upon the assistant de langue étrangère program, which took me to Toulouse for eight enriching months. Upon my return, fueled by my passion for teaching, I pursued the DUFLE course to become a certified French teacher.

In 2014, I transitioned into the world of diplomacy, securing a position at the prestigious French consulate in Mumbai. Starting in the visa section, I gained invaluable experience in navigating the intricacies of international affairs. Later, I moved on to Business France, where I spent another fruitful year contributing to cross-border collaborations and partnerships.Weekends were not just for relaxation but also an opportunity for me to share my love for the French language with eager learners at AF Bombay. Teaching became a joyous endeavor, allowing me to impart knowledge while fostering camaraderie among my students.

In 2016, I embarked on a new chapter of my career journey, joining the Belgian consulate for a two-year tenure. This experience further broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of international relations.Participation in the AMICIF program in 2017 served as a testament to my commitment to fostering cultural exchange and understanding between nations.

Finally, in 2019, I seized the opportunity to pursue higher education in France, enrolling in a master’s program at IESEG in Lille. This marked a significant milestone in my journey, opening doors to new opportunities and adventures. Now, after three years of enriching experiences, I find myself settled in the vibrant city of Paris, where I have embarked on a career in sales. My journey with the French language continues to inspire and guide me, reminding me of the transformative power of passion and perseverance.

Mrs Priyanka Shah Talim
Head of Innovation at Toulouse School of Economics

In Priyanka’s own words, “Learning the French language has been a transformative and enriching journey that has significantly shaped both my personal and professional life. My experience at the Alliance Française de Bombay was not merely an academic pursuit but a holistic immersion into the vibrant tapestry of French culture.

As a member of the students committee, collaborating closely with the Cultural Director allowed me to contribute actively to the promotion of French arts, literature, and traditions within the local community.”

After completing her DFA (Diplôme de Française des Affaires) at AF Bombay in 2005, Priyanka started her work at Campus France (2005 – 2007) where she became a facilitator for Indo-French educational collaborations. The language became a bridge between diverse cultures, fostering understanding and cooperation between students and institutions. It was immensely gratifying for her to witness firsthand how proficiency in French could pave the way for meaningful partnerships in the realm of higher education.

Working at the Toulouse School of Economics (since 2013) has been an incredibly rewarding experience for Priyanka. The French language has opened doors to a world-renowned economic research centre, where she contributes to cutting-edge projects and collaborates with experts in the field.

AF Bombay not only provided her with linguistic skills but also became the backdrop for a significant chapter in her personal life. Meeting her husband at this institution and celebrating their wedding with the Alliance Française team added a deeply sentimental layer to her language-learning journey.

Living in France, her husband and her have continued their commitment to the French language and culture through their involvement in the association — Centres internationaux francophones des Lions Clubs de France. This platform has allowed them to promote world peace and friendship, transcending linguistic barriers through French.

In essence, the importance of learning the French language extends far beyond mere communication skills for Priyanka. It has been a key that has unlocked doors to opportunities, connected her with people from diverse backgrounds, and allowed her to contribute meaningfully with both local and global communities. The journey has been not just a linguistic odyssey but a cultural one as well.
