We present a panel discussion on the book Le Tiruppavai ou Le chant matinal de Margali with the translator Dr. Vasumathi Badrinathan [ Classical Musician & Head, Department of French, University of Mumbai ] along with the panelists Prof. Dr. Shobana Vasudevan [ Principal, R.A. Podar College of Commerce ] and Dr. Malini Shankar, IAS [ Member, Board of Directors (Govt appointed), IL&FS | Member (Hon), World Maritime Univ, Malmo, Sweden ].
The book consists of Andal’s sublime verses translated from Tamil to French. Andal was the only woman among the twelve poetsaint-philosophers of southern India from the 6th Century to 9th Century. Dr. Badrinathan’s book is an homage to the intensity and beauty of Andal’s work. The panel discussion will be followed by a reading of verses from the book, interspersed with singing of select verses in Carnatic music style by Dr. Badrinathan.
