SHADOW & LIGHT: A SOLO PIANO RECITAL BY KIM BARBIER
This program explores the powerful and subtle contrasts between shadow and light through a multifaceted musical journey.
Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata opens the recital with its melancholic tones and bright flashes, emblematic of the fragile balance between darkness and clarity. Next comes Chopin’s Barcarolle, a work bathed in a gentle, floating atmosphere, where light seems to rise from calm waves.
With Liszt’s Liebestraum, tenderness and intensity intertwine, painting a love both passionate and serene. Chopin’s Andante spianato et grande polonaise, on the other hand, alternates between delicacy and grandeur, illustrating a path from shadow to the radiant light of a triumphant dance.
Debussy’s pieces, including The hills of Anacapri and Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum, plays with Mediterranean light and the vibrant energy of modernity, revealing subtle shades of luminous rhythms and colors. Finally, Bizet’s Grande valse de concert concludes this exploration with an explosion of vitality and virtuosity, celebrating light in all its splendor.
Each piece in this program reveals, in its own way, the dialogue between shadow and light, a dynamic that transcends time and style.
