In partnership with St. Andrew’s Centre for Philosophy & Performing Arts and Metamorphosis Theatre Inc, we bring to you performed readings of Contemporary French Plays translated in English!
For the 11th set of readings, we bring you Magali Mougel’s play She No Princess, He No Hero – the story of Leïli and Nils – two students in the same class who do not conform to the gender roles that society dictates. Leïli likes to hunt, dress like boys, and gel her short hair. Nils likes to wear his hair long, shows his emotions, and is not physically strong. Told through the voices of these two characters, this intimate and poignant theater piece transports the audience into the mind of young boys and girls confronting the cultural stereotypes imposed on them as they come of age.
