International women’s day

On the 8th of March, International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. For this special day, in partnership with antiSOCIAL, Alliance française de Bombay will screen a film which questions the condition of American women in the 50s.[/box]

Foxfire by Laurent Cantet (143′)

Adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’ teen-empowerment novel, the film explores the mindset of a group of rebellious teenagers in a small American town in the 1950s. ‘Foxfire’ is the name given to a secret society of high-school girls determined to fight back against sexual abuse and day-to-day sexism; they are led by the charismatic Legs, and include the chubby Goldie, boy-obsessed Rita and serious Maddy, through whose narrative voice we see events proceed.
