L’adieu à la nuit by André Téchiné (104′)
This film tells the story of Muriel – a confident woman who spent her childhood in Algeria and who breeds horses in France along with running an almond plantation. Muriel seems to enjoy a fulfilled life and is overjoyed when her grandson decides to visit her before taking up a job in Canada. But all is not as it seems and Muriel soon discovers that Alex has more dangerous plans. Caught between the love for her grandson and the moral obligation to do what’s right, this personal story about a family takes on surprisingly political dimensions and raises questions to which there are no simple answers!
