Merope are an European band, creating a very unique chemistry of ancient Lithuanian melodies, own compositions, textures of sound, subtle harmonies and polyrhythm, improvisations melted with electronic soundscapes. Their first album “9 Days” was created solely with solar power and recorded in the open lands of southern Spain. With the second album ‘ Amaranthine’ Merope dedicate the poetic textures and the sound of their inner journeys to the waters of the world.
Merope’s ethereal atmosphere gives life to a new ritual music of our modern time.
This time MEROPE will perform in a special trio setting: Jean Christophe Bonnafous ( France ) bansuri ; Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė ( Lithuania ) voice, kanklės ; Bert Cools ( Belgium ) guitars and effects.
Jean Christophe Bonnafous had finished his studies in Indian Classical music under the tutelage of legendary flutist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. Now he performs regularly alongside Hariprasad Chaurasia in Europe and India.
Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė, Lithuanian singer and kanklės player, harmoniously combines her native music roots with improvisations in other music styles
Bert Cools guitar player from Antwerp mainly active at the improvisational music scene of Europe.
Merope will perform a set, inspired by peaceful minimalistic Lithuanian folk music mixed with improvisation. The songs are talking about human connection with nature and ritual magic in everyday life, and have a subtle combination of gentle melancholy and peaceful joy.
