As part of Bonjour India 2022, prepare to travel back in time through the lens of the renowned Indian photographer Parmanand Dalwadi at the Piramal Art Gallery in NCPA from March 29 (Tue) to April 10 (Sun). Dalwadi’s work spans over 60 years of photography in India and abroad but the exhibition will focus on his journey in France in the 70s.

After graduating from MSU, Dalwadi was recruited as a faculty member in NID in the early years of the Institute. On NID’s behest, he accompanied the French humanist photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson on a journey to northern India. In return, Cartier-Bresson invited Dalwadi to join the Magnum agency in Paris with funding from the Ford Foundation.

The exhibition will trace Dalwadi’s journey in France through 50 photos captured with the Nikon F and marked by a strong influence of Cartier-Bresson. These photos offer a striking look into the France of the 70s – the era of disco and boogie!
