Le Pélerinage à l’île de Cynthère portrays a “fête galante”; an amorous celebration or party enjoyed by the aristocracy of France during the Régence after the death of Louis XIV, which is generally seen as a period of dissipation and pleasure. La Raie is a still life painting by Jean Simeon Chardin and is one of the artist’s diploma pieces. Le Verrou is a gallant scene painted by Jean-Honoré Fragonard and is one of his most famous paintings.
