Parallels between French and India directors

Auteur theory is the idea that one individual is responsible for the entire creative vision and style of a film. This theory came to the forefront of film theory in the late 1950’s when François Truffaut and his colleagues at the Cahiers du Cinéma, starting writing about authorial intent in filmmaking. They attributed this leading role to the director of the film. 

Jeffrey Goldberg will analyze and compare the work of two directors and how their choices shaped key-elements of the filmmaking process. This month, he will focus on Olivier Marchal, french director and Ram Gopal Varma, Indian Director.
