International movies on music


In partnership with the Consulate General of Italy, the Consulate General of Switzerland, Bureau du Quebec, the American Center and the Max Mueller Bhavan

During three days, in different venues, all day long some of the greats musicals, documentaries about music, biographies of great artists … will be screened.

The Consulate General of Italy, the Consulate General of Switzerland, Bureau du Quebec, the American Center,  the Max Mueller Bhavan and Alliance francaise de Bombay take the opportunity of the Fête de la Musique to showcase their culture at an International Festival!

Each country offers Bombay’s public movie to watch, to celebrate the multiplicity of music and its universal nature!


American movies:

Dreamgirls, by Bill Condon (2006), based upon The Supremes’s history (members were Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard) this movie recount the career of the girls band in the sixties and seventies. Those who love cinema will be happy to see Jamie Foxx (which wonderfuly plaid Ray Charles) in the character of one of the most famous Mowtown’s productor and Beyonce Knowles (leading singer of the band Destiny Childs) playing Diana Ross. A great tribute to The Supremes and to the Mowtown.

A chorus line, musical by Richard Attenborrough (1985), Michael Douglas plays a demanding and tyrannical director which leads the audition for a new musical: only 7 will remain… As in Fame, dancers have to sweat and work. A nice eighties aesthetic movie for all who want to discover Broadway’behind curtain.

German movies:

Crossing the bridge, by Fathi Akin (2005), the famous director Fathi Akin take us to discover the Istanbul sounds with this brilliant documentary. This movie was screened out of the competition at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. With this movie you’ll do a wonderful journey through modern Turkey.

Rhythm it is, by Thomas Grube and Enrique Sanchez Lansch, this documentary-13 time awarded- show us an extraordinary process leading where 250 kids from 25 different nationalities have to face the challenge of performing the Stravinsky ‘Rite of spring’with the famous chief director Sir Simon Rattle and accompanied by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra . Italian Movies:

The legend of the pianist on the ocean, by Guiseppe Tornatore (1998), is the story of a man found and raised on a ship. The 1st January of 1900 a deckhand find a newborn baby he chose to call him 1900. A he grows up, the child shows exceptional talent for piano. Adult, 1900 still on the boat begins a famous piano player . A beautiful tale about love, jealousy and music…

L’Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, by Agostino Ferrente (2006), this multi-awarded documentary is a tribute to the universal love of music nature! This movie is about the genesis of the famous Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio which is actually performing all over the world. In the most multiethnic area of Rome, different people from different countries choose to play together and to create a World Music.
