On the occasion of the Beauty and the Beast  exhibition organized by Matthieu Foss Gallery, the Alliance Française de Bombay is pleased to present the movie La belle et la bête, by Jean Cocteau.

Beauty and the Beast, a group show curated by Anne Maniglier.  Till January 28th 2012
Anne Maniglier is a photographer and picture editor. In recent years she divides her time between France and India where she has been working with emerging Indian artists on the development of their career.
The group exhibition was inspired by the popular fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast" and in particular by the 1946 cinematic version by French writer and cineaste Jean Cocteau.
The tale of a beauty confronted with a beast has been a recurring theme in popular legends and has had numerous cultural manifestations in literature, theatre, opera and film since the mid 18th century until nowadays. In Cocteau's romantic and expressive filmic version, the poet/filmmaker created a disturbing fantasy of tormented emotions – of threat and attraction that inevitably bring together the unsettling innocent beauty and the distressed lonesome beast.

Artists: Akshay Raj Singh Rathore, Bhrigu Kr Sharma, Lochan Upadhyay, Nibha Sikander, Preksha Tater, Rachel Cunningham, Vidisha Saini, Pat, Sahid Datawala, Shanthamani Muddaiah, Siddhartha Kararwal.
