In this play, Aristophanes presents two citizens who are tired of the corruption in Athens and hence decide to leave the city and settle in the kingdom of birds. This ‘promised land’ lies between the land of men and Mount Olympus. Birds of all kinds on this land without worrying about their future and without any form of political organization. The two men wish to endow these birds with a political and economic force but will they succeed? Will they be able to make this little territory without history one of the superpowers respected by all?
