Mathieu Boisvert is a professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal and has led numerous research projects in India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, and Bhutan which focus on contemporary religious practices such as pilgrimage, asceticism and those of sexual minorities. In partnership with the Quebec Government Office in Mumbai and CERIAS-UQAM, we present the Indian launch of his book Les hijras : Portrait socioreligieux d’une communauté transgenre sud-asiatique [ Hijras - A Socioreligious Portrait of A South Asian Transgender Community ] which looks at the revered but misunderstood community of hijras. Tambours sur la digue by Ariane Mnouchkine (135') Ariane Mnouchkine used "human puppets" to bring Hélène Cixous' play Tambours sur la digue to life. This film is an audiovisual recording of the play being performed by Mnouchkine's troupe - the famous Théâtre du Soleil - and uses scenography, acting, and puppetry to present a philosophical epic which is disturbingly modern.
